5Tony Romo’s Run in 2007 and 2008
Tony Romo had a successful run in his first full season starting for the Dallas Cowboys. He led the team to a 13-3 record. Even though Romo did play in 2006 as a starter, it was for half a season, but he still managed to lead Dallas to the wild card round. With Drew Bledsoe out, Romo took over, and he had Marion Barber, young Jason Witten and Terrell Owens at his side. The 13-3 record in 2007 could have been 11-5 easily since the games against the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills could have gone either way.
In the playoffs, Dallas lost to the New York Giants, who pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of NFL, winning against the heavily favored Patriots in the Super Bowl XLII. The Giants proved that you don’t always need the best team to win – sometimes you need healthy players and a little bit of luck. The 2008 NFL Draft ensued, and Dallas brought Adam “Pac-Man” Jones and Terry “Tank” Johnson.
With high expectations, Dallas prepared for big-time games, but they ended the season with a disappointing 9-7 record which was not enough to enter the playoffs. And they lost the last game to the Philadelphia Eagles – their division rival ended the Cowboys’ hopes with a 44-6 win. Romo had 36 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions in 2007 and threw 4,211 yards, which was outstanding. A year later he reduced the number of interceptions to 14 but also had seven touchdowns fewer and the total of 3,448 yards, which was still excellent.
