Much to all fans’ delight, in June last year the Curb Your Enthusiasm showrunners broke the great news and confirmed that the series would be renewed for another season. This was a great surprise for everyone, as Season 8 ended back in 2011, and then what seemed as an indefinite hiatus followed. As you probably know, the series is created by Larry David, who also plays one of the main roles. David is well-known for co-creating the highly successful comedy series Seinfeld. But, with Curb Your Enthusiasm becoming HBO’s longest-running scripted comedy, it can be said he managed to surpass himself.
The series renewal was confirmed in a video which features David himself dressed like Roman, with a wreath on his head. Needless to say, we expect it to live up to your expectations and to be at least as good as the previous ones. Read on and see what we know about the upcoming sequel for now.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 Release Date
Even though we have had to wait for some time to hear about the exact Season 9 release date, the good news is it’s official now – the sequel will be released on October 1, 2017, and it will premiere at 10 pm (US time). Larry David just said: “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, I left, I did nothing, I returned.”
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 Cast
If there is one star that we know for sure will reprise his role in the ninth season, it’s quite obvious now that that’s David. However, we have also found out that we should expect several other original cast members, including Jeff Garlin as Jeff Green, J.B. Smoove as Leon Black, together with Ted Danson, who will play himself. In addition to them, we will also see Cheryl Hines as Cheryl David, despite the fact that her character ended up divorcing Larry in Season 8.
But that’s not all. Lauren Graham (known for her part of Lorelai in “Gilmore Girls”) will also appear in Season 9, though only in a recurring role. Furthermore, Chris Williams, who made his appearance as a rapper Krazee-Eyez Killa in Season 3 will be there, too, together with Rachel Heinemann (Iris Bahr) and Susie Essman (Susie Greene).
Here’s what Essman had to say about the highly-anticipated sequel: “Half the old crew from six years ago is coming back. They’re incredibly loyal to him, so he couldn’t be the jerk that he is on the show if that was the case,” the actress stated according to NY Daily News. The source also suggests she further talked a little bit about her character. “We haven’t shot in six years so I am so pumped to get into those Susie Greene crazy outfits, and I’m trying to come up with a new fashion theme for her this year,” the actress added.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 Plot
When it comes to the very plot, even though not many details have been revealed, it seems the new season will be exciting. Mary Steenburgen, one of the guest stars, hinted: “We’re going to stir up a little bit of a hornet’s nest with it, I’m afraid, but it’s how he saw it and what he wanted to do.” Furthermore, she explained: “I’m so glad because it [has been] so long now that we really didn’t know if it was going to happen. And we never got a straight answer out of him when we would ask him over the last couple years. And people asked us constantly, ‘When’s Curb coming back?’ That, and ‘When are you making Step Brothers 2?’ And then last summer, he suddenly said, ‘I think we’re doing it,’ and he pitched the idea for our part of it.”
All in all, despite various obstacles and David’s insecurities about Curb Your Enthusiasm renewal, the series is coming soon. The filming started in March last year in Los Angeles, unlike Season 8 which was made in New York.
