DreamWork Animation’s prehistoric family comedy “The Croods” was first released in 2013 and it received positive reviews, which encouraged its producers to think that the sequel to this adventure comedy would also be a success. However, Universal Studios, DWA’s current parent company, has unfortunately canceled the sequel production.

The original movie grossed $587 million and, as already mentioned, was well received by critics and audience, but, sadly, “The Croods 2” got off to a rough start. Despite working on the film for the last few years and trying to solve the problems they encountered, the producers eventually got stuck, the development process was too slow, and there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Thus the movie release date was delayed several times at first, but such a slow pace implied even then that there was a great likelihood of giving up on this project.

The Croods” sequel was supposed to reunite most of the former cast members, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, and Emma Stone included, with Leslie Mann and Kat Dennings announced to join them.

According to Variety, DreamWork Animation was actually thinking about canceling the movie even before the arrival of the new parent company. However, it has also been said that “The Croods” are sure to remain in the company’s catalog so that someone might launch this project again one day.

As for DWA’s other, more successful projects, an animated comedy film “Trolls” is already in cinemas, while “The Boss Baby” will be released in March 2017.
