Dallas Cowboys were expected to draft either a cornerback or a defensive end in the first round with their 28th overall pick. It was more likely for them to go with a pass rusher than a pass defender and that is what happened. With their 28th overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys selected Taco Charlton.
This is one of the deepest Drafts in recent memory when it comes to defensive ends. A lot of DEs were taken in the first round, including the number one overall pick Miles Garrett and Cowboys’ first round choice Taco Charlton. This guy is considered to be one of the most talented pass-rushers in this year’s draft. As a senior, he was able finally to become a starter for Michigan. Even though he had a monster season with 9.5 sacks and 13 tackles for a negative gain, people are still wondering why it took him so long to get that starting gig with the Wolverines.
Charlton is going to be another weapon in defense of Rod Marinelli. This team desperately needs a guy that can put the pressure on a quarterback and Cowboys are hoping that Taco is their man. DeMarcus Lawrence, Charles Tapper, and Benson Mayowa are some of the players that are going to be on the field alongside Charlton for the ‘Boys next season. Crawford and Lawrence are coming off offseason surgeries, so that is one more reason for the Cowboys to go after a defensive end early in the NFL Draft. They recorded 36 sacks last season which was their highest sack total since 2011, but they still want more pressure on the opposing signal callers. In the biggest game of their season last year, they have failed to do that against a top-two QB in the league.
