While it was only a matter of time as the team has expressed that they want to bring back their coordinators, they have finally made it official as they have signed their offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and their defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli to contract extensions. The deals are supposed to expire after the 2017 season, and this news had been broken by Clarence Hill from the Star-Telegram.
Dallas Cowboys’ offense has worked like a well-oiled machine all season long. They have never wavered from who they are – a team that runs the ball first. A massive offensive line that this squad has is one of the major reasons for their success. Using it properly is the job of an offensive coordinator as he is the one that makes the play-calls. Linehan has given the ball to Ezekiel Elliot on a lot of occasions, and he didn’t make a mistake by doing that.
His offense had two Rookie of the Year candidates in Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot. He also needs to be given credit for how good of a year Dak Prescott had as Linehan was the one to put him in the position to be successful.
On the other hand, we have Rod Marinelli as the defensive coordinator. He didn’t really have much to work with, but he made the most of what he had. There were some games in which the offense really didn’t do much, but the defense was able to keep the opposing team from scoring. Cowboys even showed some signs of a pass rush at the end of the year, but it all fell apart in the duel against the Packers. Still, this defense had a good year, so Rod Marinelli did a good job and is deserving of the extension that he has got.
