January 4th was the date when Chris Jericho wrestled with the New Japan Pro Wrestling for the first time in his career. At the end of 2017, we have learned that he was going to face Kenny Omega at the Wrestle Kingdom pay per view, the biggest show for the NJPW promotion. It was a big surprise for everybody as everyone thought that he was with the WWE.
At the end of the day, Jericho was a free agent and was free to do whatever he wanted with his career. He chose to go overseas and make some money in Japan.
His match with Kenny Omega was pretty good. Maybe the expectations were a bit too high since Kenny is one of the best while Jericho is more than capable of putting on a show if he has a good dance partner in the ring. Omega is for sure one of the best.
It seemed that this was just a one-off appearance by “The Best in the World at What He Does,” but now we are learning that he might keep working with New Japan.
As a matter of fact, it really doesn’t appear that he is finished with this company as he attacked Tetsuya Naito during the promotion’s New Year’s Dash Event. The words between the two have been exchanged during the media day for the Wrestle Kindom twelve event.
At this moment, we still don’t know whether or not this match is going to happen now or later. They might not even get involved, but the chance of them battling is good. It is probably going to depend on Jericho and his band Fozzy. They have some concerts scheduled for the next few months, so it is going to be hard for him to make it work. On the other hand, NJPW is going to be in the US on March 25th so they might face off then.
