Carmella was a clear-cut choice to win the first-ever Money in the Bank contract during the same pay per view last year. Her character perfectly fits the MITB gimmick and that is why they gave her that honor. Usually, when somebody wins the briefcase, that person is almost certain to emerge as the next champion. Well, Baron Corbin had some bad luck with that and there is no doubt that Carmella was wondering whether or not they are going to do the same thing to her.
She was on a nice role as the Money in the Bank contract holder. It was her only gimmick. The one that has that briefcase in their possession, especially when they are a heel, usually look to find a wounded champion in order to have the odds in their favor.
That is exactly what Carmella did on Smackdown Live. Her cashing in makes her look smart since this was the best possible opportunity for her.
Charlotte was attacked by Kay and Peyton Royce, the two girls that made their main roster debuts on the show. The Queen was really hurt since the two wanted to make a statement. That is what the heels that get called up do on their first outing on the main roster.
Carmella saw Charlotte laying down, having no shot of resisting her attack and kicking out, and she ran down the ramp, cashed in her MITB contract that she won nine months ago and became SD Live Women’s Champion.
Many are wondering why they didn’t make her do it when Charlotte was facing Asuka so The Empress of Tomorrow wouldn’t get pinned, but the company decided that this was the better way. It for sure made Carmella look smart and sharp since she reacted the way she should have.
