The Buick Velite concept will appear at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show later in November. Meanwhile, the GM China released a teaser photo which reveals sharp headlights and the grille that glows in blue color. Unfortunately, these are not likely to appear on the production model.
The question is why did the company made a concept when they have already manufactured the production vehicle? Also, the new GL8 is one of the most popular cars in China, so why would they want to put the Velite concept forward?
The Shanghai-GM will produce the Velite, which is just a variation of Chevrolet Volt. They even share the plug-in drivetrain. The car will be equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol unit that produces 99hp. The wheelbase of Buick Velite will be 2694mm and the car will weigh 1610 kg, which is similar to the Volt.
The Chevy Volt was not so popular in China, mainly due to the price of the vehicle. Although the exact price of the new Buick is unknown, it will definitely be cheaper than the Volt. The China public will greet the Velite in the first half of the next year.
In 2014, the speculations were circulating that the Buick would use the Velite name for the Opel Cascada that was supposed to come out in the US. However, the Velite reached the China eventually.
