Lott’s injury was one of the, for the lack of better word, smallest injuries in the history of the NFL. But it is well-known for one thing. When this San Francisco 49ers safety broke his pinky finger in April 1986, he asked the doctors to actually amputate it in order for him not to miss time on the field. This story basically became the one that is cited for his heroism and dedication to the game, but as Lott later found out, it was not such a good decision.
