Those who are not familiar with the name Expander should know that this is Mitsubishi’ main rival to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga rival in Indonesia. The Mitsubishi Expander is being built by the carmaker’s subsidiary in Indonesia and thanks to the PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia we have a teaser image that shows its launch at the GIIAS 2017 in Jakarta, that opens on 10 August.
We did some teaser images analyze and managed to round up the improvements made to the Expander to sharp new headlamps with LED strips, matte grille, and an oversized fog lamp cluster. It will also feature the “Dynamic Shield” design in the front with the redesigned bumper and the fender that now give off a crossover SUV feel to it. The rear segment of the car is somewhat more conservative with a sole change to the taillight cluster that now has an L-shaped LED stop lamps.
The reports that are coming from Indonesia are claiming that the Expander will feature the 1.5 L engine that is derived from the Colt and it will be delivering its power to the front wheels over the optional CVT. The Expander is supposed to ensure company’s clean entrance into the LMPV segment where the competition is fierce and consists of names like the Honda BR-V, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Avanza.
Mitsubishi’s manufacturing plant in Bekasi, West Java is set to produce the vehicle, and for now, it is planned that the plant will open with a capacity of 160.000 units per year, with the possibility of expansion to 240.000 units which is quite admirable. As we managed to find out, MMC is apparently planning to ship the Expander to Europe, which means that we will also be graced with this sleek looking little LMPV. Sadly there is not a lot of details in the teaser images we have, but make sure check them out regardless, there is no knowing what new might pop up when you take a close peak. Enjoy!
