Let’s take a look at the differences between BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class and determine which car has better characteristics. Take a note that we excluded driving experience.
Size
First of all the size of the vehicle for the new 5 Series has increased. The new model is longer wider and passengers can sit more comfortably on the rear seats that in the E-Class. However, the trunk of the BMW remained small, and Mercedes has larger cargo capacity.
Features
The 5 Series has some admirable new technology that lacks in its rival. If you opt for the BMW, you will get features such as Remote Parking capability, touchscreen iDrive infotainment system and a car-to-system communication. This last one is interesting since via this feature the car provides traffic and other information to the driver. On the other hand, Mercedes has great quality features, but BMW has more.
Mercedes Engine
The E-Class has two models in the US – E300 and AMG E43. Let’s start with E300. The engine produces 241 hp and it takes the car 6.1 seconds to complete a 0-60 mph run. The AMG E43 has more powerful engine – a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 unit that is good for 396 hp and the vehicle accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
BMW 5 Series Engine
The 530i comes with the power plant that is rated at 252 hp and it takes this model 6.2 seconds to reach 60 from 0 mph. On the other hand, the 540i produces 340 hp and it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. BMW will also have the M550i and its engine will be a powerful 4.4-liter twin-turbo with eight cylinders.
