The usage of these are tracked by BlackBerry on BBM, and a list of the most used ones for a week in September has been made public.
Comparison across various social platforms
Smiley faces have secured the top three positions among the most popular emoticons, and this indicates that most of the BBM users are cheerful people. Emoticons representing positive emotions hold the top six positions.
If we take a look at the list of most popular Twitter emojis then we get to see some interesting differences. The most preferred are the heart icons, and it has acquired multiple positions – No.1, 4, 7, 8 and 15. WhatsApp users are more inclined towards using a completely different set of emoticons. If we make a study of the most used WhatsApp icons we find that the top three emojis are the screaming shocker face, a face winking with the tongue sticking out and face that seems to laugh till it cries.
