BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s bad luck continues as some of its users suffered a network outage in Canada and the Asia-Pacific region, but the services were back on track a few hours later, the company told on Tuesday.
BB10 users unaffected
According to the memo sent to few users of both BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) and Rogers Communications Inc, the outage affected Canada`s leading mobile network. However, Roger Inc said that the network breakdown affected only few customers, and the BB10 users were unaffected by this outage on their phones.
Telus Corp, a major network company of Canada also accepted that few customers were suffering from the issue. BlackBerry tried to resolve the issue by the earliest, and later conveyed that the network issue has been resolved for all users.
The smartphone maker operates its own global network, getting assistance from the telecommunication companies and networks to ensure that customers are able to send the messages more securely. However, customers moved away from BlackBerry, in over past few years, with the advent of larger, touchscreen models running on Google’s Android software and iPhone from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
Not the first time
The network failure worsened the status of BlackBerry that once ruled the global smartphone market, but was reduced, in the recent years, due to aggressive smartphone market making the Canadian firm to shift focus on secure messaging services for business and government customers. Similar to this recent network failure, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) network suffered from mass outage back in October 2011 after slipping from the topmost position.
After dropping on the charts, BlackBerry has ousted two senior executives, and called off sale process last year. BlackBerry was once the darling of the Wall Street bankers, Washington politicians and other techies, who were fans of its mobile email.
BlackBerry is trying to woo its loyal customers with the launch of two fresh phones, BlackBerry Q20 and Z3. Customers have deviated from BlackBerry and the company wants to retain its loyal customers and fans. BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is still earning a major chunk of revenue from the smartphone sales because of its popularity in geographies like Indonesia and Venezuela. However, the customers in Europe, US and Canada are losing interest in BlackBerry devices.
