Electric car startup Faraday Future actually saw the future on Monday when the initial designs of its concept car got leaked on twitter just a few hours before the actual launch. It was scheduled to unveil the design during the famous week-long tech expo CES in Las Vegas. Apparently the iOS app got prematurely appeared in the app store which resulted in the unexpected leak.
The completely electric car will have a top speed of 200 miles per hour giving a winning competition to its biggest competitor Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S. It will also have a fully autonomous driving mode. Thanks to the perfectly designed glass cabin and tail fin, it is giving a batmobile look which will attract a lot of crazy minds for sure. Reports have unveiled that Faraday is working on a unique type of modular battery technology which will allow its large models to hold more battery power with-in the frame. The production version of this non-production concept is expected to hit the market in 2017.
Faraday Future was founded by a group of ex-tesla employees and has some big names in the team. Nick Simpson (former director of vehicle and chassis engineering at Tesla), Sue Neuhauser (former senior automotive designer of color and trim at Tesla) Page Beermann (former senior designer at BMW) and Pontus Fontaeus (former interior designer at Ferrari, Land Rover, and Volvo and also worked on redesigning the business-class interior of an airline).
Faraday Future has managed to keep all the information about their future plans secret from the press. Even the production line of the company still remains a mystery as it has mentioned in their press releases that they are exploring different areas of technology and automotive sectors such as “unique ownership models”. Faraday also indicated that there are ongoing plans to launch every segment of automotive market i.e. from sedans to crossovers and even pickup trucks.
Though, as informed by Bloomberg, a key member of the team, Porter Harris who was chief battery designer changed his employer to Lotus Research and Development on LinkedIn.
A three million square feet facility is in the pipeline in North Las Vegas. It will be built on 900 acres of land and will need a huge investment of around $1 billion. It is expected to create more than 4500 new jobs in the area and around 50% of the employees will be hired from the local Nevada area.
