Audi produced the second Q8 concept, which you can see here, with the first one being introduced at the previous Detroit Motor Show. This is a mild hybrid sporty SUV and it has been presented at the Geneva Motor Show, one of the most important car shows in the world.
The 2017 Audi Q8 Sport concept is equipped with a mild hybrid drivetrain that delivers 469 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, while the car can go from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. The limited top speed of this concept is pretty solid 170 mph or 275 km/h. The hybrid drivetrain consists of a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI that produces 443 horses and an electric motor which adds 27 hp. In addition, there is a 48-volt electrical system which is in charge of electricity flow.
The Q8 Sport concept also features a lithium-ion battery pack which lies underneath the luggage compartment and it can provide a decent amount of power to steer the car through congested traffic, while electric power can be used for parking and maneuvering the car as well. With an 85-liter fuel tank, the overall range of this concept is 746 miles.
Audi decided to improve the engine by adding the electric compressor which was seen in the Audi SQ7 diesel for the first time. The purpose of this compressor is to add more horsepower and allow a lag-free acceleration any time you want. The engine is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission while the concept has a 4WD configuration.
The Audi Management Board Chairman, Rupert Stadler declared: “The drive system of the 2017 Audi Q8 Sport concept is a major step towards optimizing efficiency and sustainability in large-volume series production. The combination of mild hybrid technology and a TFSI engine sets a new benchmark for the synthesis of electromobility and combustion engines.”
The mild-hybrid powertrain will definitely appear in some upcoming Audi models such as the A6, A7, A8 and the Q7 is supposed to get this powertrain as well. The production variant of the Audi Q8 will go on sale sometime next year.
Audi installed several digital displays inside, while there is the version of the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit with higher-resolution. Furthermore, the driver will read information which will be projected on the windshield from the cutting-edge “contact-analogue” head-up display. The Q8 sits on 23-inch alloy wheels around which are 305/35 tires. What is fascinating is that there are 20-inch ceramic disc brakes and the concept allows five levels of ground clearance with the 90mm height difference between the levels.
