It is amazing how fast rumors are spreading. Just after official introduction and launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus we are already getting unofficial reports about iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. It is unclear if the Apple already has devices prepared but that doesn’t prevent people from speculating.
When it comes to the name of new smartphones we are sure that Cupertino-based tech giant will not change much and that we will be getting iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Looking at the release date for this year and previous year model we can conclude that next gadget will come on September 6, 2017. It perfectly fits into previous Apple scheme since it is Wednesday, two days after Labor Day in the US and on the last day of IFA consumer electronics show that Apple always misses. Most likely scenario is that pre-orders will be opened on September 8 while the stores will be getting new units on September 15.
Design changes are rare, and we could see new devices with similar looks offered. Something like this could happen with the future model. We do not expect that the recently removed 3.5 mm audio jack to return but it is possible for the company to introduce premium finish model. This is a quite realistic possibility as the 10th birthday is approaching, ceramic finish like on special versions of Apple Watch 2 would be awesome.
Display size could remain same with 4.7-inch for a smaller and 5.5-inch diagonal for a larger unit. What we would like to see is higher resolution that could be compared to competition flagships. Even latest smartphones offer good quality it could be bumped furthermore more as an advertising trick than as something that users will notice. Transition to AMOLED tech is another option, and it would result in higher contrast and stronger color on a brighter screen.
In camera segment, we have always received upgrades for generation switch, and now 12 MP unit comes on iPhone 7 while Plus version brings dual camera. In the future, we could see the dual setup on both devices but at this point, we are still far from any details. New processor should be developed, and A11 Fusion fits perfectly into naming policy of the company. Storage amount could vary from 32GB all the way up to 256GB. More power is always welcomed, but it also means that it will drain the battery a lot faster, higher capacity would be nice, and we do expect to see this happen.
June of the next year could be the time when new iOS will come as we are used to seeing its introduction at the WWDC. If this happens, and we believe it will than the iOS 11 will arrive. Just like always, newest devices from Apple will carry latest available software.
