Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s line of MacBook Pro laptops with Retina display got an upgrade from the company on Tuesday. As per the details from Apple online store, the entry-level model now comes with 200MHz CPU speed along with Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s latest Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The entry-level 15-inch model now has 16GB of RAM compared to 8 GB previously. The prices have been kept the same except for the 15-inch high-end one, which comes with NVIDIA graphics, is now $100 cheaper.
Rumors were right
Past weekend, photos of in-store signage were released, which revealed specs for three 15-inch configurations, and soon after this the predictions about updated Retina MacBook Pro line began to leak online. A report from Apple Insider claimed that both the 13-inch and the 15-inch models will get an update on Tuesday.
Intel’s Crystalwell-based Iris Graphics chipset was introduced to the lineup by Apple for the first time in October 2013, and around the same time the last Retina MacBook update had come.

The 13-inch variant of the Retina MacBook Pro offered at $1299, is powered with a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, a RAM of 8GB and PCIe-based flash storage of 128GB.
The internals of a mid-tier version priced at $1499 are similar, but it has got an SSD of 256GB. The price required to be paid for the top-end 13-inch laptop is $1799, which runs on a powerful 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, and sports a flash storage of 512GB and 8GB of memory. All the 13-inch models have got back the Intel’s integrated Iris Graphics chipset.
The low-end version of the 15-inch large screen model has been priced at $1999. It is powered with a 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and features 16GB of memory along with 256GB SSD and Iris Pro Graphics.
A reduction of $100 has been brought about by the company in the price of the top-tier 15-inch model with discrete graphics after which it costs $2499. This device comes with 16GB of RAM and SSD of 512GB, runs on a 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and features an Intel Iris Pro Graphics with a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics card. If so desired the customers can get a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz by making an additional payment of $200.
