Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is keeping a close eye on security concerns of its devices in the wake of iCloud hacking. The giant hardware and software company has ramped up security of its iOS devices after launching a new web tool that lets users check the Activation Lock status of their devices.
Working of the ‘Kill Switch’
The security feature was introduced as part of Find My iPhone 7. Code named “Kill Switch”, it comes with a feature that prevents intruders from using your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad in instances of misplacement.
Once the feature is enabled one cannot turn off the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature until they login with a valid ID and password. The security feature will go a long way in preventing people from erasing your content once you lose or misplace your iPhone. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) claims that the new security feature will prevent other people from reactivating and using your iOS device should it get lost.
To enjoy the upgrade on any of your iOS device all you need is to access the tool at iCloud.com/activation lock; you will be prompted to enter the IMEI or serial number of your device after which you only need to enter a capture code. Once you click continue, you will be able to see the actual status of your device.
Lock Status Activation
You may need to activate the Activation Lock if it is turned off to enjoy the added security feature. If the Activation Lock is on and you are not the one who set it that way, you will need to follow another procedure offered by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)in order reactivate the account, with your credentials. In case you know someone who reactivated the feature you may need to contact them so that they give you the login keys.
