Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is rumored to come soon with its largest ever iPad, which boasts of a huge screen of 12.9-inch. A report from Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter informed that the suppliers of the Cupertino-based company are in process to manufacture the much hyped iPad that would go under production in the first-quarter of the next year.
A ‘Big’ addition to the iPad line
The iPad is available in smaller display sizes at present – 9.7-inch and 7.9-inch. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) wishes to add larger screen devices to its line of phones and tablets. The new iPad is rumored to be diagonally 12.9 inches. It’s been over a year since the company is working with its suppliers to jointly introduce the bigger screen models of its devices as the customers are more inclined towards those.
The company generates maximum revenue from iPhones, and iPads are the second largest contributors. The tablets were first introduced by Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which gained huge popularity, but did not sustain for long and a persistent decline in the sales has been noticed for the last two quarters. The main reason cited for this is that the company did not release any new models and the preferences of customers migrated towards large-screen devices from Samsung, Sony and others.
iPhone too becoming larger
Apple Inc.’s smartphones market share has also been on a decline as we have smartphones as huge as 5-inch in the market offered by almost all the big and small makers. This led the company to reportedly work on manufacturing larger screen iPhone as well. Since long, rumors have it that on September 9 the two new big screen smartphones would be launched by the company with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display. Bloomberg news informed that the production of those started back in June itself.
Research firm Gartner found that the popularity of small screen tablets is more than the big screen tablets and this helped the Android OS from Google become the most used operating system. At present, it accounts for 62% of the market share. Apple’s iPads run on the iOS mobile software from and have been on a massive decline from 53% share in 2012 to just 36% market share in 2013.
