Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is offering big-ticket items like Apple TVs, iPads, iPods MacBook Airs and Beats headphones and so on in its yearly Fukubukuro promotion in Japan. The company kicked off Lucky Bags promo today in respect of Japan’s retail tradition that offers hundreds of dollars’ worth of savings. Many Apple Store locations in Japan also opened two hours early to accommodate an expected heavy rush of customers.
During the Fukubukuro promotion, major retailers sell sealed bags filled with popular items and customers grab them for a price, which generally results in a better deal compared to the combined value of included goods. Customer doesn’t know the specific contents of the packed bag until it’s opened and they are not allowed to return the contents unless found defective.
According to Japanese blog Kodawarisan, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sold four Fukubukuro packages during 2014 promotion, each priced around $340 (or 36,000 yen) with combined value of contents ranging from $640 to $1,280. Each bag came with one big surprise sealed into an Incase ICON Slim Pack backpack.
For 2015, the most valuable Fukubukuro configuration included an 11-inch, 128GB SDD MacBook Air, Twelve South’s PlugBug World power adaptor, and a limited edition Power Support Air Jacket. Other configurations exchanged the Mac for a 16GB iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi or a 16GB iPad mini 3 with Wi-Fi or a 16GB iPod touch.
Other Japanese blog Mac Otakara noted that Apple Stores handed out 300 bags per locations during this year’s Fukubukuro promotion, which translates into about 2,500 units countrywide.
Alongside the festive promotions, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also started offering special 2015 limited edition variants of the UE BOOM Bluetooth speaker, the Mophie Powerstation battery pack and Incase 13-inch MacBook sleeve at its stores.
