After nearly a year of trialing, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is making its corporate mail service WorkMail, widely available. The mail service costs $4 per month and renders 50GB of storage. Amazon’s WorkMail is cloud-based and will initially be available in three AWS regions in and outside the U.S.
The service is Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s optimized corporate mail service, which according to the company, also supports calendaring in addition to mail solutions. Customers require do not have to replace their existing systems to enjoy WorkMail, because the service is compatible with a wide range of operating systems and device form factors. For example, one can run WorkMail on desktop and mobile.
The general availability of the mail service was announced in a blog post by AWS Chief Evangelist, Jeff Barr. The announcement came nearly a year after Amazon announced the start of WorkMail preview. During the preview period, Amazon was able to enrich WorkMail, particularly equipping it with better security measures. WorkMail has built-in capability to encrypt stored data, protect against virus threats and scan messages for spams and other potential threats.
Availability
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s WorkMail will initially be generally available in the U.S. East and the U.S. West regions, which are basically Northern Virginia and Oregon regions. Outside the U.S., the service will be available in Ireland (Europe).
Amazon is in the process of adding more AWS regions and it is possible WorkMail could expand into those new regions as well once they are up and running. Outside the U.S., Amazon will this year open new AWS regions in the U.K., South Korea and India. Another new AWS region will be activated in the U.S. in Ohio, bring to four the total AWS regions to be opened in 2016 – a record expansion.
Compatibility
Amazon’s mail service is compatible with a wide range of corporate services and tools, which should make it less painful or disruptive to use. The corporate mail service is compatible with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Outlook on Windows and on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Mac OS X. WorkMail will also be supported by devices running BlackBerry’s BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Certification
According to Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), its mail service has attained certifications such as ISO 27001, ISO 27017 as well as ISO 27018.
Pricing and storage
At the cost of $4 a month, it comes with 50GB of storage. For businesses that want to give Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s WorkMail a test before they purchase a subscription, they can sign up to 25 users for a 30-day trial.
