Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is about to begin delivering the new tablet Surface Pro 3 in the market, but ahead of it the company has taken a move of cutting down on price of the second generation tablet Surface Pro 2 by about $100 on some models and $200 on others.
Earlier the Core i5-based 64 GB Surface Pro 2 was available for $899, but now it’s available at a price of $799 i.e. $100 less while the 512 GB highest end model priced at $1,799 initially are now available for $1,599. Prices of Surface Pro 2 were cut by Microsoft late May in UK and it seems that the prices of ARM-based Surface 2 will also be cut in France and other countries.
Surface Pro 3 Core i3, i7 soon
Surface Pro 3 is Core i5 based and is available in two models of which one is 128GB one for $999 and another is 256GB one for $1,299. A pen is included in these prices, but not a cover or a keyboard. Later in August, It is expected that the Core i3 and Core i7 models of the Surface Pro 3 will also become available.
The i5 version of Surface Pro 3 was preordered by many customers, who have been notified by the company that their devices have been shipped as evident from their Tweets on June 17.
Stock issues for Microsoft
According to the officials at Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), the company had listed 20th June as the date for shipping of preordered Surface Pro 3 devices. This is, also, the date, when the i5-based Surface Pro 3 devices will be available for sale at the retail outlets.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) for quite some time now is facing problem of keeping in stock some of the previous versions of Surface and also some of the associated peripherals. It cannot be made out whether high demand or low supply is the reason for this. Surface Pro 3 had June 20th as the shipping date for the 128 GB model and this has been moved back to June 30 by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). On the online store site of the company, the shipping date for 265GB model of Surface Pro 3 is still marked as June 20.
