The Green Bay Packers were one of the best teams in the NFL in the second half of the season. What powered their late year surge in the standings and in the Playoffs was their offense and the brilliance of Aaron Rodgers. Still, at the beginning of the year and the end of the season, we had a chance to see why this team wasn’t quite good enough to make it to the Super Bowl.
It is pretty simple – their defense wasn’t good enough. Even though Aaron Rodgers did have a good season, he just couldn’t solve every problem that this squad had. In the second half against the Cowboys and in the whole game against the Falcons, we saw that this defense can’t stop elite offensive players. That game that Packers played against the Dallas Cowboys sums this team up pretty well. They can be explosive and score on everybody, at anytime, anywhere, but they are also more than capable of giving up a lot of points. Squads that do that can be good, but can’t be great.
That is why the Packers need to go out and add some defenders on the roster. Aaron Rodgers believes that they are pretty good right now, but that some help on the defensive side of the ball is welcome.
“We probably need a couple more pieces on defense before the season starts, but we’re going to be really tough to stop on offense,” Rodgers is confident as they added Martellus Bennett in the offseason. |(Coach) Mike (McCarthy) has a great system that’s ever evolving and changing, and I put my stamp on it once we get it down on paper.”
What do you think, can the Green Bay Packers be a top contender with few additions on the defensive side?
