The 2018 TVR Griffith has been introduced at the Goodwood Revival, and it shocked the world. The engineers managed to develop a vehicle which will use the handsome design to challenge the likes of Aston Martin and Jaguar. The new Griffith, which slightly looks like the Mazda RX-7 after hitting a gym, has been introduced in Launched Edition spec which will start from $118,819. Let’s see what makes the 2018 TVR Griffith so extraordinary.
Exterior Design
TVR launched the first car in almost two decades, and they won the lottery with such a fascinating model. It has sharp lines, which add to an extreme aerodynamic presence that nicely blends with smooth rear haunches and muscular sides. The front grille is wide open, and every single line of this car breeds aggressiveness making you stand in awe of such creation. The corners of the front end feature authentic headlights which are moved away to be integrated into the side intakes. Furthermore, the vehicle has smooth cutouts in the lower corners of the fascia which guide the air toward the side intakes, helping to create front-end downforce. Another unique detail is the small lip below the front grille which serves as an air dam in the center of the front fascia.
The front fenders are long, and they run all the way to the front bumper whereas a small lip around the wheel wells is making those wheels more prominent. The width of the fender provides the Viper-like vent ahead of the front doors, but what is important is that this vent is functional and it causes air to pass. The aerodynamics of the vehicle is fascinating, and air passes alongside the body smoothly and efficiently. Interestingly enough, there are exhaust outlets positioned at the front, and they eject the gas at a 45-degree angle from the door. The mirrors are sleek and prevent drag at high speeds, where the 2018 TVR Griffith is one of few production models without door handles.
On the sides, the rear stationary glass has a triangular shape, and it fits in nicely with the overall design. Moreover, the rear quarters are smooth, and they bend slightly downward, creating a good-looking overhand below the rear spoiler. The ground clearance is critical, and you don’t want to drive this car on public roads because a single bump would cause damage to it.
The rear end is attractive, smooth and straightforward. Bent upward and outward are the rear quarters, and rear deck and such a unique position fool us into thinking that the vehicle has a secondary spoiler. The taillights remind us of hockey sticks, and they are recessed into the corners with the functional vent sitting below each. The mesh in the corners enhances air flow from underneath the car, which shows that the engineers focused on aerodynamics. Generally speaking, the 2018 TVR Griffith looks astounding.
What’s Inside the Cabin? – 2018 Griffith Interior
The interior of the new model is simple yet luxurious, whereas it is more about business than fancy equipment and various convenience features. Lots of Alcantara is located on the lower dashboard, steering wheel, steering column and door trim panels, whereas the rest of the interior, including the seats, is wrapped in leather – don’t forget, this is the Launch Edition after all. We can say that the cabin is as luxurious as the ones of big car manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren or AMG. There is a round hub surrounded by a ring of Alcantara on the steering wheel, while the wheel itself is off center with the side spokes below the 3 and 9 O’clock positions. The instrument cluster provides all the necessary information such as vehicle and engine speed, engine temperature, etc.
Floor mats and carpeting are black whereas all three pedals are tall and gold and the color matches the rings around the buttons to the right of the steering wheel. The center console sits high which is why the shifter is short. There are a lot of buttons a little further back, and the center stack comes with three control knobs used for various features. HVAC vents are incorporated into the dashboard while the passenger side of the dash is empty with nothing but leather and Alcantara. At the moment, there are no photos of the seats but don’t expect much room in the new 2018 TVR Griffith.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, the new TVR will pack the 5.0-liter Cosworth-enhanced V8 engine, but the total output is still unknown. The curb weight of the car is 2,775 pounds, and with various calculations, we don’t want to bore you with, we have established that the engine will deliver around 555 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The clutch and flywheel, which connects the engine to the transmission, are specifically designed for the Griffith, a vehicle that will create 50:50 weight distribution. This means that the stability will be excellent as well as driving dynamics.
The chassis is designed from carbon composite that is bonded to steel and aluminum bits. Because of that, the chassis is strong but light. Both front and rear axles get double wishbone suspension with adjustable coil overs and concentric springs. In the meantime, the rear wheels are wrapped in 275/30-series tires whereas the front feature 235/35-series rubbers.
2018 TVR Griffith Pricing
TVR didn’t want to reveal the starting price of the standard version, but we know that the Launch Edition model, which will be available in 500 examples only, cost $118,819. We will have to wait for the price of the regular model. The Griffith will start with the production in late 2018.
