The Dallas Cowboys will kick off their season Sunday against the New York Giants. Since the season starts, the squad needs new team captains, and the players made the official decision. The new Dallas Cowboys team captains are:
• Dak Prescott
• Jason Witten
• Sean Lee
• Tyrone Crawford
• Orlando Scandrick
• Dan Bailey
The team captains are voted on by the players, and the most team captains one NFL team can have is six. In 2016, the Cowboys had five team captains, but now they decided to add one more player to the list and thus reach the limit. Dallas even tried to go beyond the fixed line.
Clarence Hill Jr wrote on Twitter: “The Cowboys called the league to petition to have seven captains. Jason Garrett wanted Travis Frederick to be added. But the league says only 6.” This was completely understandable request considering that Frederick was one of the captains last year.
The Dallas Cowboys have three defensive captains, two offensive, and one on the special teams. Compared to the last year, Travis Frederick is replaced by the new star of the team Dak Prescott, and this is not a surprising decision at all since Dallas want Prescott to carry the franchise.
Many predicted that Dez Bryant and Byron Jones would be team captains, but they turned out to be wrong. It was probably a close call, and that is why Dallas tried to add another man to the list. Clarence Hill Jr also went on to explain: “The Cowboys have three on defense because Scandrick and Crawford ended in a tie, so they took them both.”
Hopefully, we will watch the captains going out for the coin toss in the Super Bowl in February 2018.
