The new gen of Mazda CX-9 was introduced for 2016 model year, and we covered that as well, but after some time company ended up with a heap of tech that can go in it so naturally, they decided to do the update of this vehicle for the next year. With this update drivers will have at their disposal blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Smart City Brake Support (automatic emergency braking system). As we managed to find out, you will not wait long for this updated version as it should arrive at dealers near you in late September.
The engineers over at Mazda, besides this safety tech update, decided to make the CX-9 a little more interesting by making the company’s G-Vectoring Control standard feature on all trims. With this tech, your engine mapping, steering input, as well as throttle settings will be adjusted in order to better distribute engine torque while cornering. With this, you will have most of the vehicle’s weight shifted on front wheels and, apparently, gain more direct feel from the steering wheel.
As far as prices are considered, the base CX-9 Sport will be available with a new Sport package that will add around $1,290 for a whole bunch of new technology. We feel that it is a fair bargain especially when you know you are getting the automatic headlights with high-beam control, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, radar adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat.
The Touring trim, on the other hand, will, as always, include things like leather seats and a power tailgate, but the updated 2018 model will also bring something more to the table. That more comes in the form of tilting driver’s seat and a power passenger seat with lift and lumbar support. The Touring’s Premium Package is still here, and for $1,890 more you will receive LED fog lights, navigation, a Bose 12-speaker stereo, parking sensors and a sunroof.
The CX-9’s Grand Touring model, if you remember, brought a huge step forward with equipment like adaptive lighting, aluminum trim, and a head-up display, but the 2018 model will add to that by offering you heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, and windshield wiper de-icer. The only trim that remains unchanged is the range-topping CX-9 Signature, which retained pretty much the same features like Auburn-colored Nappa leather, rosewood trim from Japanese guitar-maker Fujigen, LED lights in the grille, and LED interior lighting, which is pretty OK by us.
