Chevrolet is currently working on the new 2019 Chevrolet Malibu model, and the prototype has been caught on camera. Based on the camouflage, we expect to see a number of exterior design changes which will make this midsize sedan more attractive. It appears that the daytime running lights will be different from what we used to see on the ongoing version.
The ninth-generation Malibu was introduced last year, so we don’t expect to see any dramatic modifications. The engines are going to remain the same on the new model, but according to some speculations, Chevrolet is looking to add the 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel unit which powers the Cruze Diesel. In the Cruze, this powerplant delivers 136 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.
Furthermore, the nine-speed automatic should be available for the buyers. This transmission exists in the current model, but you will find it connected with the top-range 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 only, so we really hope that Chevy will use it with the other less potent units as well. The updated Chevrolet Malibu will be presented in the first half of 2018, and it will go on sale as the 2019 model.
Nowadays, people are turning their backs on sedans, and their popularity is fading. Even though the Malibu has proven to be a reliable vehicle, it couldn’t avoid the decline in sales. For example, the Chevrolet sold 89,899 Malibu models in the first six months of 2017. Just for comparison, they sold about 30 percent more in the same period last year, which is a drastic drop for a vehicle that has mostly stayed the same.
Some other models such as the Impala may even be axed due to a low number of sales. Speaking of the Impala, slightly more than 30,000 people bought the car in the first half of 2017, which is down more than 40 percent compared to the same period in 2016. The faith is not bright for the sedans, but the Chevrolet Malibu keeps on going.
