To say that this was unexpected would be too weak of a word for this occasion! We have spotted a trailer carrying multiple variations of the upcoming 2019 BMW X4! This was sighted near the automaker’s factory in South Carolina, and it’s BMW galore! Fortunately, these pre-production beauties had absolutely no camouflage whatsoever! You can see them now in their full glory!
When it comes to changes in looks, you can clearly see that the roofline is a bit more sloped towards the back of the car which gives the X4 a more fastback-styled body that ends with a pair of dangerous looking taillights on the back end. The lights have also been changed, and they bear absolutely no resemblance to those featured on previous models. The company is rushing this vehicle as it seems because its cousin hit the streets two years ago and they are already skipping the usual mid-cycle refresh and going straight to a second generation. This is probably due to the new X3 that is already out there, and the company now wants the X4 to feature the newest underpinnings.
Judging from the trailer the company is probably planning on selling both the M40i and M40d models alongside each other as soon as they become available. The one that runs on petrol will have a turbocharged inline-six 3.0-liter engine that is also featured in the X3 M40i and can produce 355 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque that is distributed through the xDrive setup and eight-speed automatic transmission. And we believe that those stats are pretty decent for a 0 to 60 mph (96 kph) in 4.6 seconds before reaching 155 mph (250 kph) so we expect similar numbers from the X4 M40i too.
When it comes to the diesel-powered M40d, we still don’t know what it will feature under the hood, but many believe that it will have the new quad-turbo 3.0-liter, inline-six mill offered in the 750d. That beast can produce 395 hp (294 kW) combined with a humongous 560 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque. If that is the case, we believe that BMW will probably downtune the engine for this upcoming vehicle.
Unfortunately, this set of spy shots doesn’t include shots of the cabin so we can’t say much about it. However, we can say that we expect a lot of features to be carried from the X3. Considering that BMW didn’t even camouflage these prototypes, we think that the official reveal is going to happen soon. And we believe that it will happen during the next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show. All in all, judging from the looks of these vehicles, we imagine that we are in for something huge here and we are already hyped.
