The 2019 Ford Ranger and 2020 Ford Bronco test mules have been caught on camera together in Arizona. We are so excited to see these two vehicles on the road since they are the long-anticipated in America. The pickup was spotted in Wildtrak and Raptor forms, whereas the SUV was hidden with the conventional Ford Everest bodywork, which makes us believe that this is either a chassis of powertrain mule and not the actual Ford Bronco preview. Let’s analyze each car separately.
2019 Ford Ranger Raptor
Even though we have known that Ford is testing the new Ranger Raptor, this batch of spy shots are an exciting sight. The first thing we see is the massive chunky tires which are used for the F-150 Raptor. The upcoming Ford Ranger boasts a muscular look, just like his rival the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. The bulging fender flares are also visible, and they provide coverage for the truck’s widened front and rear track.
Considering that the vehicle is spotted in Flagstaff, it must have been the part of the hot-weather off-road testing. We can conclude this because of the thick layer of mud that is visible on the running boards and splash guards. At the moment, we cannot tell what lies under the Ranger Raptor’s bold and broad skin because of the heavy camouflage. On the other hand, Ford wanted to display the large oval-shaped badge on the tailgate as if they teased the public to speculate about company’s intentions with this model. The engine under the hood could have been a 3.2-liter turbocharged I5 diesel, but take this information with a pinch of salt.
The 2019 Ford Ranger XLT and Wildtrak
The Ford Ranger XLT is mid-level trim in the world market, and it will be the mid-level option in the USA as well. On the other hand, the WIldtrak sits at the top. Seen together with the Everest-Bronco test mule, and the Ranger Raptor, two Super Crew pickups were on the road as well, one of them with the XLT-spec wheels and the other with the Wildtrak ones. Both of these models had style bars mounted on the bed, which is the common thing on the Ranger sold outside the USA.
Speaking of the globally-sold Ranger SuperCrews, you should know that they are sitting on suspensions with the same ride height, so we cannot be sure whether the mules are 4×2 or 4×4 versions. Just like the Raptor, both Ranger XLT and Wildtrak had dirt on the covers, which means that they had seen some off-road action as well. Both models sounded as if they packed Ford’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engines under their hoods.
2020 Ford Bronco Mule
Fortunately, this is just a mere mule for the 2020 Ford Bronco, and it will not look like the Everest, like most of the fans feared. Blue Oval is just testing the powertrain, and that is the only thing that will be featured on the Bronco from this global-market Everest bodywork. Don’t get the wrong idea here – we love the Ford Everest, which is a beautiful SUV with three-row seating arrangement and good off-road capability. However, we want the new Bronco to look like and offer what the iconic Bronco did.
The engines which are expected to power the upcoming vehicle are a 2.0-liter EcoBoost I4 for the entry-level trim, but Ford might also offer optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and 3.2-liter Power Stroke I5 diesel variant. The test mule has the same alloy wheels as the Ranger Wildtrak, but it lacks the Ranger Raptor’s wide track and fender flares, which indicates that this is a mid-level Bronco.
We still need to wait for about a year to see the production version of the new Ford Ranger and even more than a year for the production Bronco, but these spy shots showed us that Ford is working full steam. Until the time comes, stay tuned for more details, rumors, and speculations.
