The latest generation of Ram 1500 has been around since 2009. After four years it received the necessary facelift which kept it fresh and desirable and a year later, in 2014, it got some updates to the engine range when the new EcoDiesel V6 arrived. The 2018 Detroit Auto Show will definitely see the all new version of Ram Pickup and gladden a lot of fans and enthusiasts.
The news about the Ram 1500 Pickup (code-named DT) debut in Detroit came from Automotive News, but it was also confirmed by a Tweet by an editor at Motor Trend as well as CEO Sergio Marchionne. We also managed to find out that the all new Wrangler as well as this Ram 1500 will begin production early in 2018 while the assembly of both current generations will also continue into 2018, so you don’t have to worry about that.
The Ram 1500 Pickup was already spied and spotted before, and you could see and read things about it like updated fascia, a longer wheelbase, and reportedly (not yet confirmed) new split tailgate option. Some of those reports also mentioned the possibility of significant changes to the interior of the pickup. Apparently, it will get a huge makeover which will be in line with the Chrysler Pacifica minivan which means one important thing – a whole bunch of new tech inside the vehicle.
As far as powertrain is considered it is unclear if the Ram’s EcoDiesel engine will be carried over, mostly because there are some rumors regarding the possible emissions cheating, but some reports say that this generation might as well bring the first hybrid option on a Ram truck. Besides that pretty much everyone expects to see those familiar V6 and Hemi V8 options carried over from the current version. Although the introduction of the new Ram 1500 is far away, the company recently “teased” new appearance options for its current model and those include features like black trim on the grille, headlight bezels, and wheels, and four new color options that will hopefully keep things fresh until January.
