Ford is bringing the Ranger back to the USA after it was discontinued several years ago. Finally, new details are starting to appear as we are getting closer to the reveal. It is going to hit the market in 2019, and once it does, it will slot below the Ford’s immensely popular F-150. Some of the biggest Ranger’s rivals will be the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Toyota Tacoma.
It has already been officially confirmed that the truck will be based on a body-on-frame platform, but we don’t know anything about some other specifications. The latest information that has emerged in Motor Trend tells us that the 2019 Ford Ranger is going to come out with three engine options.
The first one is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter I4 which produces more than 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. The other is a more powerful 3.3-liter V6 unit that comes from the 2018 F-150 and which is rated at 290 ponies and 265 lb-ft of torque. The third engine is currently unknown, but Ford may introduce either a diesel powerplant or an EcoBoost variant – both of which could be highly successful.
We must wait for the official information, and all we have are stories and predictions at this moment. One of the rumors has it that the Ranger will be offered in SuperCab and SuperCrew body styles whereas the starting price of the base model will be in the low $20,000 range. We expect upper trims to be equipped with a wide array of features such as LED headlights, heated/ventilated front seats, and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
