According to Ford, its new 2018 Mustang GT is the fastest Mustang ever as it can reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill in under four seconds.
The new 2018 Ford Mustang GT is powered by a revamped 5.0-liter V8 engine which delivers 450 ponies and 420 lb-ft of torque and is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. You can select five different driving modes but the “drag strip” is the fastest one and it makes sure that the Mustang accelerates to 60 mph in under four seconds.
Ford knows that there are fastest vehicles such as a Tesla, but it is still an extraordinary achievement as it beats the rivalry Porsche 911, Carrera. Carl Widmann, the Mustang Chief Engineer, explained how Ford managed to set a record.
“Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time,” Widmann said in a statement. “In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.”
However, if you choose the standard 2018 Mustang over the GT, you shouldn’t worry, because this model is powerful as well. It comes with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine which produces 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. This unit replaced the 3.7-liter V6 unit which generated less torque, and its fuel efficiency was worse than the 4-cylinder. The optional performance pack and the 10-speed automatic gearbox will allow you to go from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds, which is still a good result.
The Ford Mustang is not the big seller when we compare it to the popular F-Series, but it is a car with a marvelous history and a model that is recognized all over the world. The Mustang is the soul of Ford, and these improvements are extremely valuable.
