The 2020 Ford Bronco is supposed to make a comeback to the USA as a four-door SUV which is going to be based on the upcoming 2019 Ford Ranger pickup. Under the Bronco’s hood, we expect to see a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine which will be combined with amazing off-road capabilities such as 19.5 inches of water fording. What is great about the new Bronco is that it will be affordable – approximately $30,000.
The information comes directly from Ford’s engineer who preferred to remain anonymous. The engineer revealed some details about the Bronco’s revival, and he said that the company was starting the third design phase for the iconic SUV. According to him, the executives were not satisfied with the first two phases because the car “looks too much like the Wrangler.” Usually, a vehicle goes through one design phase after which it reaches production, but that is obviously not the case with the new Bronco.
The connection of these two, soon to be rivals, is not at all surprising, and Ford even used the Wrangler Unlimited model as its benchmark in off-road capabilities. The engineer told Gear Patrol: “If you’re familiar with the [Ford] Troller, out of Brazil, that’s the basic concept, but it’ll look like a four-door version of that.”
The Blue Oval is not going to introduce a two-door version because they believe it wouldn’t sell. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine we have already mentioned will power the new long-anticipated model, and in the 2018 F-150, this engine produces 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque – more than respectable numbers.
However, many people hope that the Bronco is going to be a tough off-road vehicle, but this will not be the case, according to the insider. It is expected to be a comfortable on-road family-friendly SUV, but there will be off-road hardware. The insider was asked about the Raptor version, and he said that “it’s not even in the works yet.”
Now, let’s see why this leaked information from a supposed Ford engineer is both good and bad. First of all, we love to hear that Bronco is going to use the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, but to hear that only a four-door version is going to be introduced and that it would not be as off-road-oriented as we got used to is devastating. However, we have to understand Ford who is looking to profit rather than satisfy the small number of aficionados who actually use a 4WD to the fullest.
But, don’t you think that Blue Oval should at least offer a hard-core trim with locking differentials, off-road tires, rock rails, skid plates and other useful components for those who plan to go wild with this one? We need to take this information with a pinch of salt because the engineer could be just throwing us off the track. We cannot know this, but let’s hold on to the information until we get something more concrete.
The most concerning detail leaked by Gear Patrol is that Ford is suffering from “paralysis by analysis.” In other words, there are just too many people who are working on the 2020 Ford Bronco, and they cannot agree on the direction this iconic SUV should take. Everyone thinks differently, and the Bronco decision makers are stuck in the mud. As we have said at the beginning, the vehicle is undergoing the third design phase. THIRD. Could it be that all these disagreements may ruin the new Bronco?
2020 Ford Bronco Release Date
We can only hope that Ford is going to do the right thing because Bronco is a worthy name and a new model should live up to the expectation. The 2024 Ford Bronco is going to be launched, there is no doubt about that, and this means that we might see the test mule soon, while the car will be introduced in late 2018 or early 2019.
What do you think will happen with the Bronco?
