Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has exported its News and Weather app to iOS world as it seeks to cement its positions in a number of platforms. The app dubbed ‘Google News & Weather’ will be of benefit in displaying the latest global news and weather conditions depending on location.
Working of the New App
Some of the news on offer with the new App include business, sports, entertainment, world news and technology. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) claims that the app will provide iPhone users with access to 65,000 news sources locally and globally. The new app is an upgrade to the traditional Google News pages but with a new design and more information.
By simply tapping the Weather panel, you will be able to get detailed information of the projected temperatures for the day. The news headline portal, when tapped, opens up in a separate screen where you can be able to read various news in full, from original sources.
Concerns over the New App
The app presents weather information at the top of the screen with a sample of latest headline news appearing at the bottom. You can customize the app to receive news depending on your preference. The main concern with the new app is that Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) provides browser-based view of the original story.
The problem with this format is that it can be a challenge for texts to fit in iPhones and iPads due to a lack of consistency in text sizes. News from Zite Flip board and AP app, on the other hand, are different from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s as they provide news with consistency in text size.
Google News & Weather app has also been put to task on its inability to be compatible with Apple’s new iOS 8 widget-feature. People may disregard the new app altogether as there are other apps that can deliver info, better and with flair. Despite the concerns, Google has promised that the new app will be up to the task in delivering comprehensive and personalized headline stories as well as weather news.
