Kirk Cousins has been a good and a solid option for the Washington Redskins at the quarterback position. Even though the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants had great seasons, the Washington Redskins were able to put themselves in a position to get to the Playoffs with the Week 17 win over the Giants. Yes, Cousins struggled in that game, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he has had a good year.
In the NFC, there is an argument to be made that he is the best quarterback. Dak Prescott has been great during his rookie season, but Cousins is asked to do a lot more than him, and he is for sure a better passer than Dak. It goes the same for Carson Wentz. Eli Manning is a Super Bowl champion, but he is aging and hasn’t been great in the past couple of seasons.
Even though he is the best QB in the division, this guy hasn’t gotten a long-term deal from the Redskins as he has been franchise tagged two years in a row now. He will be getting a lot of money because of that tag, but that long-term security is still not there. It is like the Redskins want to see whether or not he is the real deal. Ex-Redskins’ WR Pierre Garcon also doesn’t understand why they haven’t extended him yet.
“I don’t know, man. I wish I had the answer. But like you said, Kirk, he’s got to be consistent. He’s moving the ball up and down the field, he’s making plays for us, he’s been doing it for a long time. He is the guy that’s helped us make those Playoff runs. He’s done a lot of things great for us, but I don’t know why he’s not the long-term answer there.”
