The show has been adapted into anime from its original game format, and it has had pretty good feedback from both critics and viewers. Nonetheless, they all agree that the first season is too short. Namely, at this point, it consists of four 23-minute episodes. Even though it is anime series, it’s still too short.
However, it is well known that the first season serves as a prequel to the first game, so it is actually only covering new ground for the series. It might be that Netflix is only testing the waters for the show and checking whether it should go in with a full delivery. The man behind the show, Fred Seibert said that they are breaking new ground with the series and that they gave the goal for it to be America’s first animated series for adults.
Furthermore, the latest update we have from Netflix is that Castlevania will be renewed for a second season. Namely, it will be increased from four episodes to eight, so this is something to look forward to.
As far as its release date is concerned, it is certain that a lot of work will be needed for producing a show like this. This means that one can hardly expect it to be released on an annual basis, but since it doesn’t consist of too many episodes, it might be possible. Let’s say that July 2018 would be a preferable date, but the end of 2018 sounds a bit more realistic.
