Ford is preparing the new Focus sedan, and the prototype has been caught on camera for the first time. The hatchback prototype was seen last year, and the new version is expected to arrive in 2018 as a 2019 model. Blue Oval will produce the popular vehicle in a plant in China.
The ongoing Focus is manufactured in Wayne, Michigan, a location that will be a new home to the Ranger and Bronco models. We cannot wait to see these two vehicles, but we also want to mention the Focus RS which is produced in Germany.
Ford’s initial plan was to assemble the new Focus in Mexico, but because of the declining sales of sedans and hatchbacks in the US, the carmaker came to the ultimate decision to use the Chinese facility for the new vehicle.
The 2019 Ford Focus is expected to be longer and wider than the ongoing model which should result in more space inside the cabin. All of the units under the hood are supposed to be turbocharged, but we cannot tell for sure which of the engines will be used. The Focus ST hatchback will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 whereas we also expect to see, even more berzerk, Focus RS hatchback. However, the powertrain for this model is still unknown, but it is possible that it will use the same 2.0-liter engine but that it would pump a lot more power than in the ST case.
Despite the fact that the interest of the customers heavily switches from passenger cars to crossovers and SUVs, Ford is still an important carmaker in the segment. In the first six months of 2017, this company sold 82,721 examples of hatchbacks and sedans. It is still a high number, but it is down from the 103,144 units they managed to deliver the same time last year.
When it hits the market, the new Ford Focus will go against Subaru Impreza, Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Volkswagen Golf, Toyota Corolla and Chevy Cruze. The pricing is not announced yet, so follow us for more details.
