The fifth-generation Honda CR-V has been launched in the US and now will reach Asia. Autocar India reports that the new CR-V will be equipped with the 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel engine.
Some of the previous CR-V versions were also launched in India, but they never featured a diesel unit under the hood, so the fifth-generation is going to change that. Furthermore, Honda CR-V is going to be offered both with a five- and seven-seat arrangement in the entire ASEAN market.
The 2018 Honda CR-V is 4,571 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,657/1667 mm high depending on whether it is a 2WD or 4WD version. Its wheelbase with the petrol and diesel engine is 2,660 mm and 2,662 mm respectively, while the ground clearance is 198 mm on the 2WD models and 208 mm on the 4WD variants. The complete output of the vehicle with a 1.6-liter i-DTEC four-cylinder engine sold in Thailand is 160 PS and 350 Nm of torque.
In order to affect the pricing, Honda is going to localize a 1.6-liter engine in India, and the local subsidiary will be the one to assemble the engine block, head and crankshaft at the Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. This powerplant is going to generate 120 PS and 300 Nm of torque, and it will be under the hood of the both CR-V and the HR-V.
Besides this engine, the 2018 Honda CR-V customers will have a choice of a 2.4-liter i-VTEC petrol engine and in the CR-V sold in Thailand, this engine is rated at 173 PS and 224 Nm of torque. The diesel unit is connected to a six-speed manual whereas the one coming with the petrol powerplant should be paired with a CVT.
According to some previous reports, Honda Cars India wants to reach a localization level of 65% when it comes to the 2018 Honda CR-V, and this would influence the car’s pricing making it possible to start at INR 20 lakh. The new model will go against Jeep Compass, VW Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson.
