10 Dallas Cowboys Players To Protect In a Hypothetical Expansion Draft

We all love the NFL regular season and the playoffs, but one of the most interesting parts is the draft. Now imagine that a draft was not a regular draft, but filled with players who are already in the NFL. This so called expansion draft happened when the Huston Texans were formed, and Joe Goodberry posted this on Twitter: “Which 10 players would your team protect in an NFL expansion draft?
(1st & 2nd-year players are excluded)” Let’s see.

The first and second-year players are safe, which means that Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Jaylon Smith, Anthony Brown and Maliek Collins are staying in Dallas. There are some guys on the Cowboys team that are too valuable to let go – Travis Frederick, Zach Martin, Dez Bryant, Tyron Smith and Sean Lee.

Now, the core of the team is kept, so we move on to Dan Bailey, Byron Jones and La’el Collins. Bailey is an offensive weapon that can be used well and he is basically a beast Dallas needs. Byron Jones could be an arguable pick, but he, as a secondary veteran, could pass the knowledge of the game to the young squad from the draft. When it comes to Collins, his talent and potential are too large to leave him behind.

Now, Dallas needs leaders in the locker room and on the field as well. That is why Jason Witten and L.P. Ladouceur are staying. Should we even talk about Witten? Like him or not, you at least got to keep him out of respect. L.P. is the under-appreciated member of the Cowboys, but he also can help the squad in so many ways.

Who missed the cut?

This list of 10 players is not definite, so please argue, come with a different opinion, and if you replace any of the above players with Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Jeff Heath or Orlando Scandrick, it is understandable. Any of these players are good for the top 10.
