The Tesla Model 3 hasn’t been officially presented yet, but the fans are already looking forward to the next Model Y. According to the company and its CEO, the Model Y will debut in two years time, and we know few details about the new car, but the rendering artist at Peisert Design sees the upcoming SUV with Model 3 cues.
He used the teaser photo that went viral just a couple of days ago, and the artist assembled the new Model Y. According to the renders, the new SUV will have a lot of design cues borrowed from the existing lineup and one of those parts will be the so-called surgeon grille that the Model 3 sports.
Musk informed the public that the new Model Y will be produced in a “way that a car has never been built before” which means that its platform will be unique and this vehicle will be something we have never seen before. Musk forecasts that Model Y will be a better seller than the upcoming Model 3.
“I am really excited about Model Y. There’s been some criticism like we should sort of derive it from the Model 3 platform. But I think actually we made a mistake in trying to derive the Model X from the Model S platform,” said Musk at the annual shareholders meeting. CEO of Tesla continued by adding “We are aiming for that to hit the roads in 2019 approximately. And probably the demand for Model Y will exceed the demand for Model 3.”
Tesla Model Y Release Date and Price
It is, however, still too early to discuss pricing details, exact release date, and performance figures. It is rumored that the performance options and price of the Model Y will be similar to the ones of the Model 3 which is supposed to be introduced later this year with the starting price of under $35,000.
