The happy days are here. These past few days we had a lot of spy photos and sightings of cars that are due to come in the near future, and it is continuing today. What we have here for you are spy shots of the 2018 BMW X4 that is caught testing alongside its predecessor, which is by the looks of things, going to have a much shorter shelf-life than anyone thought.
The new X4 M40i is set to go against the Mercedes GLC Coupe, and as we can see it will manage to do that just fine, especially with its more aggressive front fascia that brings a larger grille and more prominent headlights. The new crossover is also equipped with more pronounced character lines and an integrated rear spoiler.
As you can undoubtedly see, the designers played a little with the proportions of the vehicle, and now we have a model with a lot more cohesive appearance than its predecessor. But if you neglect the new look, which is difficult, the new crossover also boasts with increased dimensions and wheelbase which are a sure tell that the inside of it will be a lot more accommodating.
This prototype on the images you see here is believed to be the more performance oriented X4 M40i, which as you can notice, has a lot sportier front bumper and blue brake calipers, but there is also a sportier exhaust system which could possibly be unique to this model. So far BMW did not share a lot of info about this vehicle, but we do know that it will be based on the X3 and it will ride on the CLAR platform.
The engine info is pretty much the same, lacking off course, but it is believed that the options will be a 2.0 L TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with 248 HP (251 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque, while the X4 M40i will most likely continue with a 3.0 L TwinPower Turbo six unit developing 335 HP (340 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. As it always is with BMW sometime later, the company could introduce a new and a more powerful X4 M with around 400 HP (405 PS), but that is a little far now, especially when you consider that this data is yet unconfirmed.
