2019 Lamborghini Urus spied testing + video!

The long awaited Urus SUV from Lamborghini has been caught testing on the Nürburgring in its prototype form for now, of course. This fortunate sighting came just after the Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed some of the details regarding their SUV.

The look

The spy shots and video of the Urus prototype, for the first time, disclose the shape of the SUV in production trim, and as it was expected it is somewhat bit more bulky than the concept we saw at 2012 Beijing Auto Show. What you will also notice is that the prototype lost the concept’s “inflated” fenders while it (thankfully) kept the Countach-style wheel arches.

Although it is heavily disguised, which is not something that surprises us, we can still see that the development of the SUV is almost completed, and we have info that the first pre-production units are already getting off the line at the company’s plant in northern Italy. As it was previously reported and speculated before that, the sales are not going to start before the third quarter of 2018 which again means we’ll likely see it arrive as a 2019 model.

Platform And Engine

If you managed to miss all the reports regarding the Urus up until now, then you need to know that it is based on the SUV-spec MLB platform that is found in fellow Volkswagen Group models like the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. But since the Lamborghini is a performance oriented company it is fairly OK to expect that their engineers will use lighter carbon fiber in place of some of the steel and aluminum sections.

The engine that will power this beast is the VW Group’s familiar 4.0 L twin-turbocharged V8 which in the Urus will be specially tuned to deliver a whopping 650 horsepower. We also managed to find out that after only a year after its launch, the Urus will receive a plug-in hybrid option pairing the twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor which is a similar setup found in the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, where it delivers 680 HP.

2019 Lamborghini Urus Price

It is a known fact that the Urus will be tuned for the on-road performance, but the Lamborghini also confirmed that it will offer modes for handling off-road conditions such as sand, snow, gravel, etc. The brand also gave a hint that the Urus SUV might bring that personalized mode that will be similar to the Ego mode introduced on the Aventador S. As far as prices are concerned, the company decided to set the base price just below the $200,000 which will largely help this one become Lamborghini’s most popular model. We could also hear predictions from supercar manufacturer that the sales will reach around 3,500 units annually, which is just around the same number of supercars sold in 2016.
