Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) bought another startup to strengthen its competitiveness against Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) particularly its cloud-computing business.
The search engine giant purchased Zync, a visual effects startup for an undisclosed amount. Zynch provides video and special-effects rendering that have been used in different movies such as American Hustle, Flight, Looper and Star Trek into Darkness among others.
Zync announced the acquisition in its website. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will integrate Zync to its Cloud Platform. Zync was designed to leverage the benefits and flexibilities inherent in cloud computing and to offer a user-friendly package. The startup was established almost five years ago.
According to Zync, integrating rendering with scale and reliability of the Google Cloud Platform will help the startup offer an even better service to customers. “With a friction-free, affordable, and elastic rendering solution, visual designers and artists in the industry can continue to do their best work,” said Zync.
Earlier this year, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) tried to attract more companies and developers to use its cloud platform, where users rent computing storage and power instead of buying and operating their own.
The acquisition of would compel the Hollywood clients of Zync to use Google Cloud Platform instead of the Amazon Web Services, which is the current leader in the market. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is spending more money and effort to broaden its market share in the space.
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) purchased Stackdriver, a cloud monitoring service in May. The search engine giant allowed Stackdriver’s customers to use the cloud platforms of its competitors including Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN).
Yesterday, the search engine giant announced the launching of a new Slides app on the iOS Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) also released updates to the Docs and Sheets app.
“Now you can use the Google Docs, Sheets and Slides apps on your iPad or iPhone and all other devices (your Chromebook, laptop, Android phone or tablet), to complete the same tasks—online or offline. In addition, you can open, create and edit native Microsoft Office files with the Google Docs suite on iOS,” according to Li-Wei Lee, a software engineer at Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) in a blog post.
