Audiophiles all over the world tend to pull toward wired headphones more and more, but some of them might make an exception when they hear about Beyerdynamic’s upcoming Xelento Wireless in-ear Bluetooth headphones. The only “downside” to these is their price tag which will be $1,200 when they come out later this year. The Xelento Wireless kept the same design and audio hardware of the original Xelento and the only thing that is changed is the lack of cord that is now replaced by a Bluetooth connection.
All of this, of course, means that the Xelento Wireless still offers the same Tesla transducer technology as well as same audiophile-level sound quality that we could see in Beyerdynamic’s wired model. The only new thing is a Bluetooth transceiver with a built-in battery that can deliver up to 5.5 hours of music reproduction, that FYI is not that awesome. But Beyerdynamic did something really smart here – instead of dropping out the cord in a 3.5 mm headphone jack, the end of the (much shorter) cable features an aluminum cylinder that houses the Bluetooth and battery components, along with a port for connecting a 3.5 mm cable once the battery dies. This means that you have an option to use these with the wire which is included in the package and it plugs straight into the transceiver.
According to the company, the Xelento Wireless supports Bluetooth aptX HD and has an ability to switch between regular aptX or AAC formats to aid those phones which do not have the higher audio quality standard. All of this sounds great but is it really worth that much money? According to people who have tested the regular, wired version of the Xelento headphones ($999) the sound they offer is amazing, has a great quality and offers no noises and breaks than the hefty price of $1,199 for the Xelento Wireless might be justified. That is if the company managed to repeat that experience over a wireless connection, of course.
Beyerdynamic, which is a German company, will be debuting the Xelento Wireless at the High End 2017 show in Munich and it takes place from May 18th to 21st.
