Nowadays, when you order a latte in a café, you usually expect it to have some kind of decoration on top. Baristas all over the world are getting better in steamed milk art, and we believe you have seen some awesome decorations, but one Korean barista has taken this form of art to another level.
Kangbin Lee from Korea uses foam as a canvas for drawing flowers, animals, portraits of Disney characters and various other decorations. While each and every one of his creations is stunning, there is still one that proved to be particularly impressive – his recreation of Van Gogh’s well-known masterpiece Starry Night. This barista creates such amazing decorations on top of coffee that some people believe it’s a shame to drink it. Take a look at the photos below and see for yourself.
Lee talked to Lonely Planet about his art and said that the special recipe was his own, but he refused to reveal some specific details. Many people were skeptical when they first saw photographs of his creations saying they must have been Photoshopped, but Kangbin posted videos which show that all decorations were hand-drawn.
Basically, his method is quite similar to painting: he uses foam as a canvas, and then pours various pigments, using small spoons to spread the colors over the foamy base. Needless to say, everything he uses is drinkable. For particularly fine details Lee uses a thin metal stir stick so as not to disturb the rest of the foam and thus manages to create these unbelievable drawings.
