April was a successful month for Chevrolet as its Camaro managed to reach the top of the muscle car sales list, surpassing the Ford Mustang. Last month Ford sold 8,063 Mustangs in the US, and that was not enough to beat the Chevy Camaro, which was purchased by 8,737 people. Even though this advantage is small, we are glad to see the change on the top of the list as it will only produce even more rivalry.
Before Ford launched its sixth-generation Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro was really dominant. It occupied the first place in the United States for most of the time between 2010 and 2015, but the sales of the fifth-gen Camaro started to fluctuate during the final year of production. Once the sixth-generation model was introduced, everybody hoped that it would restore the glory the Camaro once had, but it failed to live up to the expectations.
New version faced the crisis, and it only managed to retake the top spot from the Mustang in October 2016. This means that the Camaro was outsold by its biggest rival for almost two straight years.
We should not forget that the Ford Mustang is a couple of years ahead of the Chevy Camaro in its lifecycle. It comes to no surprise that Ford has recently displayed the facelifted version of their muscle car, but it will be interesting to watch whether the customers and the public will like or dislike the heavily-modified design of the new 2018 model.
There is a possibility that the Mustang will take over the first place and put the Camaro back on the second. Whatever happens, happens, but it is always interesting to watch the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro going at it.
Which one do you like best?
