Jeep has planned to produce a pickup version of the iconic Wrangler model, and so far, there has always been something wrong – either it was timing or the marketplace. But now, finally, the US automaker can assemble the pickup based on the next-generation Wrangler, and its arrival has been officially confirmed.
Even though Jeep was unwilling to unveil any specific details about the upcoming Wrangler pickup, there have been some big leaks lately which can help us see the overall picture of the new model. We have looked for rumors and information, and we blended everything together. Here it is.
First of all, the Jeep Wrangler pickup will be a mid-size truck, but despite that, it will sport four doors. Its bed will be 6.5 feet long with Rambox-like storage units, but they will not produce a hidden trunk in the bed, which Honda Ridgeline is famous for. This truck will be equipped with coil springs under the live rear axle, and the towing capacity of the car is expected to be around 7,000 pounds.
You will be able to purchase a rear-end tow package, which will be offered as an option. As a result, this addition will stiffen and strengthen the backside of the pickup. Although Jeep will have a difficult job to model the Wrangler and turn it into a proper truck, the interior of the new vehicle will remain the same as the cabin of the new regular version. There is a rumor that the company will offer a fiberglass T-top as an option.
According to the latest intel, this model will be powered by FCA’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine which delivers around 300 horsepower, but there is also going to be some diesel unit as well. Among the few possible choices, we have the Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee’s 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel good for 420 lb-ft of torque or Ram ProMaster’s 3.0-liter I4 EcoDiesel.
