Those who love Deadpool will be very glad to hear this. As we managed to find out the deal between Marvel TV and FXX resulted in Donald and Stephen Glover developing an animated Deadpool TV series, with a provisional 2018 premiere date in mind. The first season will have 10 episodes and will have the same adult comedy tone you saw and got used to from Ryan Reynolds in the first Deadpool movie that happened last year.
As I already wrote, Donald and Stephen Glover will have show-runner responsibilities on the Deadpool animated TV series, but they will also double as executive producers and writers on the series which is a great thing. Why? Well, to those of you who do not know Glover is also the creator of FX’s Golden Globe-winning comedy/drama series Atlanta, so we shouldn’t expect him to fall short on this one.
The show has already been ordered to series so this shouldn’t be taken as a speculation and we also have some statements regarding it from the both FXX co-president Nick Grad and Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. Nick Grad stated that “Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta. With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”
Loeb, on the other hand, stated “How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
Donald Glover is nothing to be concerned about because he is one of those men that are firmly established in the geek community especially with him voiced Miles Morales in the animated Ultimate Spider-Man TV series and co-starred on the cult comedy TV Show Community for five seasons. As an added bonus is his work in the second season of Atlanta, then his work as the young Lando Calrissian in next year’s currently-untitled Young Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Movie and much much more.
To say that Glover is a very busy man with continuously expanding his range as an artist would be a huge understatement. But what everyone expects from Donald and Stephen Glover is to bring that weird, yet insightful storytelling sensibility from Atlanta into the Deadpool universe. Why? Well, it will make the entire thing even more exciting and lovable. And the choice of FXX as the home for the Deadpool TV Show is spot on, especially when we know that the Merc-With-a-Mouth’s raunchy, blunt wall-cracking antics and “mature” shenanigans will fit there nicely right beside the title like the Archer animated TV series, as well as the other strange, adult-oriented programming.
