Honda launched the tenth-generation Civic last year, and together with the standard model, the Japanese manufacturer modified the Si version as well. Even though the company is going to sell the Type R in North America, the Si sedan is still at the top of the range, and it will compete against Subaru WRX. The 2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan is slightly beefed up compared to the standard variant, and it features sportier exterior design and some extra equipment in the cabin with more power under the hood.
Exterior Design
The Civic Si sedan is a sportier version of the standard car, as we have already said, but not much has changed when it comes to the exterior design. Up front, a gloss black piece with red “Si” badge replaces the chrome wing element between the headlights, and below that, the bumper comes with large side intakes whereas together with a revamped center vents, all of these feature honeycomb-like grilles painted in black.
The profile of the car has been unchanged, but that is actually a good thing since the standard Civic already looks muscular. What makes the Si sedan great are the 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with a two-tone finish, but that’s all on the sides. Around back, Honda added a decklid spoiler with LED brake light, a more aggressive bumper, and bigger side vents, whereas there is also a pretty chrome exhaust pipe located in the center. The Si fills the gap between the Type R and standard Civic perfectly, it represents a good balance for those that want sportier vehicle but are not ready to go berzerk.
Inside The Cabin
Inside, the Si-exclusive seats are placed instead of the standard front ones, and the sporty look is obvious. The red stitching can be found on the seats, door panels, steering wheel and leather shift lever and it lightens up a rather dark cabin. The driver’s TFT meter and audio system illumination are also red, whereas you can also find a Dry Metal Carbon dashboard trim.
Some of the features that are sported inside the 2018 Honda Civic Si sedan are electronic parking brake, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and walk-away door locking. Furthermore, HVAC system can be accessed via the seven-inch touchscreen located on the center stack, and it also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are rain-sensing wipers, whereas the 450-watt, ten speaker sound system with SiriusXM Radio, HD Radio, and Pandora come as a standard part of the equipment.
2018 Civic Si Honda Sedan Specs
The regular Honda Civic is powered by a 2.0-liter I4 engine good for 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque and the new turbocharged 1.5-liter I4 which delivers 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The 2018 Honda Civic Si uses the latter option, which is slightly upgraded to generate 205 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. This is not a massive upgrade because the new Si, compared to the previous model, produces only four extra horses and 22 additional lb-ft of torque, but the platform on which the new vehicle is based on is lighter and stiffer, so the better performances are expected.
The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to the front wheels, whereas this vehicle also comes with a dual-pinion adaptive electric power steering system with variable ratios and a helical limited-slip differential. In addition, there are a sport-tuned suspension, an adaptive damper system, wider tires and stiffer spring rates. Unlike the regular Civic, the Si sedan is equipped with the stabilizer bars which are more rigid, ultra-rigid front upper control arms that can also be found on the Type R and solid front and rear compliance bushings.
As a driver, you can opt for two ride modes – Normal and Sport. As their names suggest, normal is focused on comfort more, while the Sport adjusts steering, suspension and throttle response for more aggressive driving.
2018 Honda Civic Si Sedan Release date, Pricing & Competition
The official pricing details are not out yet, but it will definitely cost more than the Civic EX-T on which the Si is based. The new car is expected to sit between the top Touring trim and the Type R, so it will be priced at more than $27,000. Both hatchback and sedan versions of 2018 Civic Si have been presented by Honda in a YouTube video in early April. Later that month they were officially introduced during 2017 New York Auto Show. The date of the sales has not been precisely set as of yet, but the model would definitely be available for purchase during the summer months of this year.
Three biggest competitors of the 2018 Honda Civic Si sedan will be Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Sentra Nismo and Subaru WRX.
