Payback has come and gone and Monday Night Raw now has the Extreme Rules pay per view in their sight. As far as Smackdown Live goes, they are three weeks away from the Backlash PPV, their first blue branded event since Wrestlemania 33. The card is shaping up as the build-up for this show is progressing, and we already have a couple of matches that are confirmed. Also, there are some duels that are likely to happen but aren’t official yet, like Sami Zayn going up against Baron Corbin in three weeks.
Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal – WWE Championship Match – This fight was confirmed a long time ago. WWE is doing their best to build-up Jinder Mahal as a legit opponent for the Viper at Backlash. Since winning the six-pack challenge for the number one contender spot, Jinder and the writers have done a good job to set this up. Hopefully, they can keep making him look good going into the pay per view.
The Usos vs. Tyler Breeze and Fandango – Tag Team Championship Match – The Usos have performed exceptionally as heels in the past couple of months, but we don’t know why aren’t they featured more on the blue brand as champions. On the other hand, Breezango is doing a great job as a comedy tag team. They are finally getting a shot on Smackdown Live and are making the most of their opportunity.
Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles – US Championship Match – With Owens beating Jericho, the duel for Backlash is set as the Prize Fighter is going to defend his title against the Phenomenal One. This showdown is going to be a match of the night at Backlash PPV. Two of the best workers in the company will go head-to-head, and it really doesn’t get any better than that.
